Commonly Asked Questions and Answers
Q Do I get college credit for MAT 0012 or MAT
0024?
A No.
These courses are not college level credit and do not apply to any
degree programs.
Q Do they count towards my GPA?
A The grade
does not count toward the degree GPA but is printed on the
transcript and is used in determining eligibility for scholarships and
financial
aide.
Q Why do I have to take this course if
it does not count toward my major?
A By
state law, a student must complete the college prep courses or score at college
level on a placement test to be admitted to a degree program.
Q If I do well in MAT 0012, should
I retake the CPT and skip MAT 0024?
A No. Students
entering degree programs need the foundation provided in
MAT 0024
to be successful in their future college level coursework.
Q Does
MAT 1033 count for my college math?
A No.
MAT 1033 is a college level math, but does not qualify as a Gordon
Rule
course. Students in AA programs still need to successfully complete
two
additional
math courses. Students in AS or AAS programs may need
additional
math courses depending on the program. Refer to the IRSC
catalog
or see an academic advisor.
Q Which math courses
do I need for my program?
A Math
courses are specific to the major you are pursuing. It is important
that
you start your mathematics early and understand the sequence
required.
If you have any questions, advisors are available on all IRSC
campuses.
